82 D e l awa r e B e ac h L i f e ■ Holiday 2015 Art Depart ment Creativity at work Showing Her True Watercolors Anne Buck's eclectic career arc didn't end with her retirement as a biology teacher B y L a u r e l M a r s h f i e l d | P h o t o g r a p h b y S c o t t N a t h a n tall living room wall in Anne Buck's Lewes-area home is filled with paint- ings by artists she knows and admires. Interspersed among them, several of her own vibrant watercolors stand out. But as she gazes up at those two dozen or so framed images, Buck mentions that she'll eventually replace her paintings with those of other artists. Why would she do that? "My paintings are," she replies, "everywhere." Indeed, they decorate her hallway walls and those of the rooms — even a bathroom — on either side. And they occupy pride of place in her home studio, a well-organized space that opens off the hall. The astonish- ing thing is not that Buck's home is a gallery for her watercolors (most artists A Lewes-area watercolorist Anne Buck practices painting aging skin tones in her home studio. She began painting in 2006, after retiring from a career teaching middle school biology in the Cape Henlopen School District.
